Ten solid wooden rods divided into units by alternating colors of red and blue. The rods are constant in height and width (2.5cm) while graduated in length from 10 cm to 1 metre.
Aim:
To help the child learn the names of the numbers and that each number represents a quantity separate and distinct from all others. To help the child memorise the sequence 'one' to 'ten'. To show that a number takes its significance from its place in the sequence of numbers. To show that numbers can represent either the extent of a quality or a unified set of equal parts.
